A safari is more than just spotting animals, it is also about connecting with the people of the area and we are pleased to be able to take you on an excursion to meet with the local Hadzabe people, ancient hunter-gatherers who live in the area near Lake Eyasi.
The day trip will allow you to witness their unchanged, traditional way of life and how they live in harmony with the earth. Guided by one of our rangers, guests have the chance to engage with the locals and learn all about their time-honoured hunting techniques, survival skills, food preparation and cultural norms. In many ways it is a step back in time but it is also an undeniably authentic cultural journey into rural Tanzania that reveals the untold world of these charismatic people.
As one of the world’s last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes, Hadzabe men search for food alone, and return home with golden honey, sweet fruit, or hearty wild game when, and if available. Women go out in large groups and forage for bright berries, baobab fruit, and tubers, depending on availability.
