How They Dazzle Us

This Camp consists of just seven delightful tents all built with natural materials like canvas and hardwood, erected on raised wooden platforms to ensure minimal damage to the underlying ecosystems. This is a simple yet comfortable camp from which you can explore the adjacent Meru National Park where the famous Big Five are regularly spotted. As the name suggests the highly endangered and badly poached rhinoceros is frequently sighted here – a truly memorable experience and one that could become obsolete if the unnecessary poaching of rhinos isn’t stopped.

Why We Love Them

Often accommodation options in the bush focus solely on the animals and the game viewing experience. And while the game spotting is obviously a huge part of the experience, it isn’t just about seeing the animals; it is also about finding yourself and coming to terms with your role as a human on the greater stage of the universe. And this is something which this Camp gets completely – each guest tent is designed with its own private meditation area where travellers can unwind, meditate, read a novel or simply sit back and listen to the sounds of the river. Designed in contemporary style with subtle hints of Africa, the rooms are very pleasant yet unobtrusive and elegant. The balance that they strike is perfect.

Their Sustainable Superpower

This is a part of the world with a long tradition of conservation and environmentalism. Using this camp as your base, you can visit the Meru National Park to learn about Elsa the Lioness, the inspiration for the book and film Born Free. Elsa was orphaned in 1956 at just a few weeks old and was raised by conservationists George & Joy Adamson. There is also the Meru Park Rhino Sanctuary, a fantastic establishment that is doing great work and which is one of the few places left where you can still see these spectacular animals in the wild.
