How They Dazzle Us

Without a doubt the Okavango Delta is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Land and water are effortlessly combined, the vegetation is lush, the sky is big, and the wildlife is abundant. It is one thing to view game from the back of a Landrover, it is quite something else to do it from a boat – especially if that boat is a traditional Mokoro or dugout canoe. On most safaris, guests spend hours camped out at water holes waiting for the game to come and drink – at the delta the whole area is a water hole and as a visitor you get to be in it – it is a very surreal and humbling experience.

Why We Love Them

For anyone who has done it, a ride in a Mokoro will stand out as a life highlight. Precarious, slow and low, you advance through the reeds and backwaters of the Delta, propelled by a man who balances at the rear, poling you along with a long branch. It is silent, some might even say stealthy, and it affords incredible game viewing opportunities. This wonderful Landing has a lot to offer in terms of its architecture and location, but the Mokoro rides are the highlight – over and over again.

Their Sustainable Superpower

Built in the most environmentally friendly way possible, this Landing consists of tented accommodation, with each unit erected on a stilted platform to ensure minimal impact on the land. Sustainable tourism practices abound, from the locally sourced and very well-trained staff, to the integrated living with local communities and wildlife. Education is a big focus and the team here are very focussed on uplifting the greater community to ensure the preservation of this incredible part of the world.
