Campi ya Kanzi is an award-winning boutique eco-lodge in the Chyulu Hills of Southern Kenya. The venue inspired the great Ernest Hemingway to describe this lodge as the ‘Camp of the Hidden Treasure’ in his ‘Green Hills of Africa’. It’s the only safari lodge on a Maasai-owned reserve that spans 283,000 acres of pristine wilderness and offers guests the opportunity to walk with a Maasai guide, track wildlife and trekking to the cloud forest of the Chyulu Hills.

Why We Love Them

Conservation in the 21st century should consider people, so the first point for ecotourism should be how a tourist facility relates to the local communities. Campi ya Kanzi is a community lodge, on community land, employing locally, paying tourism revenues locally and supporting a community Trust. All of this is done with the goal of preserving the Maasai Wilderness of the Greater Kilimanjaro Ecosystem.

Their Sustainable Superpower

Completely off grid this phenomenal Landing produces all its own electricity and water. It cooks with charcoal produced by the United Nations Environment Project and it practices sustainable farming. A stay there is a carbon neutral experience.
