How They Dazzle Us

Star beds! Do you know what these are? Neither did we, until we came across this Landing and what has to be one of the best experiences available anywhere in Africa – the star bed. So good they even named the Landing after them. Star Beds are handcrafted, four-poster, wooden beds that sit on raised platforms which jut out from a thatched-roof accommodation and which are rolled out each night for guests to enjoy the most memorable sleep under the endless African sky. You sleep, in perfect comfort, under the African sky. It is a magnificent experience and one that should not be missed.

Their Sustainable Superpower

Sometimes you just have to let the awards and the accreditations do the talking. As they say, cream always rises to the top. In this instance the Elewana team have had accolades heaped on them for their efforts in looking after the environment and making tourism sustainable. Indeed their environmentally and socially-responsible practices have meant that nine of their camps in Kenya have received Eco-Ratings from Eco-Tourism Kenya: one Landing managed a Bronze, two were rated silver while six scooped prestigious Gold ratings. Each of the six that rated gold also received an international STEP certification with Sustainable Travel International. STI is accredited by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) whose core mission is to establish and manage global sustainable standards with the aim of increasing sustainable tourism knowledge and practices among public and private stakeholders. Elewana’s accreditations were not just at entry level Bronze, they received an unprecedented direct promotion to Silver level!
