One of the key elements of sustainable tourism is about looking after the communities that live adjacent to the reserves. The Elewana team are very focussed on this aspect with many of their camps, particularly those based in community conservancies, employ well above half of their staff from the local community. What this means is that many families who were previously reliant on only livestock and agriculture can enjoy a steady income. Furthermore, wherever possible, food and supplies are sourced locally to ensure the surrounding communities feel the benefits of tourism on a commercial level. It means that you can enjoy a delicious lunch-time salad, knowing the vegetables come from a local farmer.
