How They Dazzle Us

Sometimes it is not the views or the animals that are dazzling. In some instances it is the vision of the management and the incredible work that they do. This is one such case where the team, who have not only won a Gold Eco Rating from Eco Tourism Kenya, but they have gone all out to improve the habitat for the local animals and the economic and social conditions for the people. With this Landing known for its magnificent elephants – a population of over 1000 reside in the parks eco-system, habitat rehabilitation in accordance with a sustainable rotational elephant grazing plan is a key focus of management. On top of everything that they are doing the team behind this Landing are looking to the future to ensure that elephant populations have a safe feeding ground for decades to come.

Why We Love Them

Located in a private conservancy bordering the national park, this Landing affords amazing opportunities for game drives, walks, sundowners and bush meals which can take either inside the national park or in the adjacent conservancy, where there is a greater degree of exclusivity. The tents are all spacious, with king or twin beds and elegant en suite bathrooms. There is a main lounge, bar and dining area, all exquisitely built with natural materials and thatched roofs, with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro. Add to this the fact that the entire Landing is solar powered and it is hard not to love this incredible retreat.

Their Sustainable Superpower

Intimately linked and working with the community this is not a Landing that operates in isolation. Instead Elewana Tortilis Camp Amboseli employs around 60 percent of its staff from the local community, training them from scratch to become professional guides, barman and waiters. With each employed individual in Kenya supporting an average of 8 dependants, the Landing's 40 local staff members are potentially supporting between 300 and 400 members of the community. The tourist walking safaris with local Maasai guides are encouraged so that guests have the opportunity to find out, first hand, about the intricacies of Maasai culture, stimulating a pride and desire among the community to preserve their traditions.
