How They Dazzle Us
The unpretentious nature of the Ol Kinyei Adventure camp means that there is very little damage done to the habitat when the camp is setup every year between Dec and March and from July to October. The Camp has no permanent structures nor concrete foundations or heavy construction. , Instead it is a look back to the simple things in life and a commitment to doing them very well. There is something very inspiring in property that recognizes that its real value whilst on an African Safari is in the bush and the wild animals and not so much in the accommodation itself for most travellers.

Spending time in the bush is about seeing animals and having an adventure. It’s not necessarily about getting pampered and living in decadent luxury. As nice as that may be, it isn’t really a genuine bush experience. And that is what the team at Ol Kinyei Adventure Camp get right. It is certainly very comfortable and relaxing, but it is more of an old-school camping experience, sleeping in small tents in sleeping bags and have your own bathroom, and an incredible cook,. It’s real and it’s wonderful.

The team behind the Porini Safari Camps have a philosophy that is rooted in sustainability and ecotourism. Their philosophy is built around a conservancy approach that sees them lease land from the local community. A monthly rental, which increases annually, is paid to the landowners while Porini then gives first priority to the local community for jobs in the camps and conservancies. The result is that over 95% of the staff are drawn from the local people whose parcels of land have been joined together to form the different conservancies. As such there are over 1000 Maasai families who benefit directly from the conservancies through a guaranteed income from the lease of their land and in turn there is less reliance on livestock as their sole source of livelihood.
