How They Dazzle Us

A simply sensational Landing it is not hard to see why Governors Camp was named as one of the Top Ten Safari Lodges in Africa at the 2020 Travel+Leisure World’s Best Awards. This phenomenal Landing came into being as long ago as 1972 and it is still as unique and splendid as it was when conceived all those years ago. Nestled in a forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, it is a location that teems with bird-life, hippo and crocodile and huge amounts of game. In the heart of Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve, Governors’ Camp set new standards in luxury for tented camps when it opened, standards that it maintains and improves on to this day.

Why We Love Them

Boasting all the comforts of a luxury hotel, the entire Landing is under canvas. Quite simply there is no compromise when it comes to low impact building or to the highest standards in luxury. The spa is in a tent, the bar is in a tent and so too the dining room. Each canvas structure is beautifully appointed with incredible views and the highest standards in luxury. It really is a treat to stay at this Landing.

Their Sustainable Superpower

Governors’ Camp has been awarded a Silver Eco Rating from Eco-Tourism Kenya due to their sustainable tourism initiatives and practices in the camp. It is the Landing’s philosophy to support local communities in their area of operations as they recognise that in order to conserve the unique wilds of Africa, the local communities must benefit directly from tourism. This is a philosophy that was born with the advent of Governors Camp 48 years ago and which has always been a central tenant of the Governors' Camp Collection. The projects are many and varied and they tackle a wide range of issues including health, education, food security, conservation and reforestation. It is an impressive body of work.
