How They Dazzle Us
It is the extraordinary diversity of Madikwe that really dazzles. This isn't just a bushveld experience; this is a taste tester for a whole lot of different African biomes. At 75000 hectares there is scope for diversity and that is what you get. Wooded-hills give way to flat savannah plains that are characterized by deep-red earth and sekelbos thickets which in turn extend into the dry yellow-sanded Kalahari plains. It has it all. The diversity of the landscapes translate to a very diverse offering of plants and animals which means there is plenty of game to view - including the big five.

The word Madikwe, when translated into English means, 'Africa in its majesty'. And it is no exaggeration that this wonderful reserve is so named. As the Madikwe team point out on their website, ‘South Africa’s bushveld offers a soul-cleansing serenity and peace that few other destinations around the globe are able to match’. It is so true. The lodge creates a unique experience for each individual guest and offers luxurious accommodation, thoughtful comforts, excellent cuisine and incredible, heartfelt hospitality. This wonderful Landing is in a malaria free area of South Africa, close to the border with Botswana. It is one of the largest and most exclusive private game reserves in South Africa and, in short, it is everything that a safari experience should be - and a little bit more.

The Madikwe team have a strong focus on conservation and they do particularly standout work in the field of rhinoceros conservation. What is fantastic is that guests at the Landing are able to get involved in the work done here - something that is both helpful to the rangers and educational to the guests. Working with rangers and animal care specialists, guests are invited to actively participate in the process of gathering DNA samples from sedated rhinos. There is also the chance to 'notch' the animal, ensuring it can be tracked throughout the reserve.
