But the team at North Island have come at things from another angle. They don't have a business plan, they have a philosophy, the first two points of which state that they always honour the environment in which they live and work above all else and that their unceasing endeavour shall be to turn back the ecological clock. The rest flows from these tenets and we love that. Yes, you are pampered at North Island. The levels of luxury are extraordinary, but when you are the only inhabitants of an island paradise there is nowhere to hide in the event that there is litter or pollution. Announced as one of the world's top 100 sustainable destinations at the Global Green Destinations Days Event held in Croatia on October 2019, this Landing is very focussed on doing no harm and on restoring damage and rebuilding ecosystems wherever possible. Having created one of the world’s most exclusive private-island destinations, North Island has also gone all out to safeguard the island’s environment and its rich biodiversity, transforming it into a haven for endangered species – both plant and animal. Now well into its second decade, the ‘Noah’s Ark’ rehabilitation project has made substantial progress towards restoring the island as a natural paradise, where rare species such as the Seychelles White-eye, Giant Aldabra Tortoise and Hawksbill Turtle can flourish once more.
