How They Dazzle Us

Hidden away on the banks of the Sweni River in South Africa’s incredible Kruger Park, is this fantastic Landing that has been designed and styled to perfection. Staying at Singita Sweni Lodge is a bit like living inside a work of art. It is easy to be impressed and hard not to be totally dazzled. Enveloped by an ancient forest each of the Landing's suites boasts floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto expansive wooden decks, where daybeds provide the option to fall asleep under the stars. The suites have open plan designs and furnishings that draw heavily on African influences while aside from the normal bathroom amenities there is also a sumptuous outdoor shower that overlooks the river. It is not just luxury, it is style.

Why We Love Them

So often African Landings think that if they want to hit the heights of Western luxury and elegance that they need to mirror the look and feel of opulent European palaces or American mansions. But this doesn’t need to be the case as Singita Sweni Lodge highlights so well. Inspirations and design elements include gold and bronze ore, polished mud and gleaming recycled timbers which add texture, while splashes of vibrant colour are inspired by beetle shells, chameleons and birds’ wings. It is an African visual treat of style and sophistication.

The Singita team go all out to embody the values of their mission and to operate in a sustainable and environmentally and socially ethical way. So the list of what they get right is really long. But something that stood out for us was at Singita Sweni Lodge was the way that recycled wood was used so extensively in the finishes and furnishings of the rooms. Nothing goes to waste and the designers have made sure that in creating the uniquely stylish accommodations that they have played to the strengths of the local environment and incorporated fallen timber from the local forest.
