How They Dazzle Us

Four fantastic restaurants, incredible views and a long and fascinating history make this Landing very special. Built more than a century ago when the hotel first opened it had no running water. It has come a long way since then and won many awards along the way – not least the accolade for Most Romantic Hotel in Africa at the 2019 Haute Grandeur Global Awards.

Why We Love Them

So often game viewing is about the big five, and people are always desperate to see them. But the reality is that the biggest mammals are in the sea and not on land, and it is no surprise really, that it is the Big Six that are now spoken of as the holy grail of the safari experience. The sixth animal is of course the whale, and Hermanus is the premier destination in South Africa to view these. This stylish Landing is perched on Hermanus’ famous cliff path, overlooking the breath-taking Walker Bay, as such it offers visitors the opportunity to experience the finest land-based whale watching in the world from June to November each year. Guests are even able to view these majestic creatures from the comfort of their own sea view room.

Their Sustainable Superpower

Based in South Africa's Western Cape Province, this Landing has not been without its share of water issues. The whole area almost ran out of water in 2017 and massive measures were put in place to try and solve the problem and save resources. The hotel played its part and it has made big strides regarding smart and sensible water use. It has made important changes in other areas as well as it has sought increasingly to operate sustainably and live ethically.
