Explorer Camp is designed to give you the real African experience with a dollop of comfort thrown in for good measure. This tented camp is situated in the mountains of the incredible Shamwari reserve. The best feature of Explorer Camp is not the view or the charming swimming pools nestled in the rocks, or the superb tented accommodation, but rather it is the fact that the camp is unfenced and that wild animals can wander through it at any time of the day or night. It’s not as dangerous as it sounds, it’s exhilarating.

Why We Love Them

Walking safaris are one of the most incredible experiences available in a game reserve and at Explorer Camp these are an option. There is nothing that puts your place in the world into perspective quite like a walk, through wild terrain that teams with lions and elephant. The only thing that can rival that experience is star gazing on a clear night away from the lights of the city, and again, Explorer Camp is the perfect place to do this as well. You truly do come away in awe at the size and majesty of the universe we live in.

Their Sustainable Superpower

Very conscious of doing things right, this venue is focussed on providing a real deal safari experience, while at the same time underpinning it with the values and ethics that mean it is enhancing the environment. Their efforts are across the board and cover things like water management and ethical produce, but their greatest achievement is in the rehabilitation space where they are active supporters and role-players with the Born Free Big Cat Rescue and Rehab Centre as well as the Ian Player Rhino Awareness Centre.
