How They Dazzle Us
This Landing is both authentic and charming and its ability to create an unparalleled safari adventure experience with its 15 luxury safari tents in an evocative bush setting is sensational. The mood is enhanced by flickering firelight and lanterns which guide your way at night while the surrounding bush is as alive as nature intended. It is open and inviting and able to create a unique closeness to the bush, its sights, smells and sounds. Each of the tents has a private sun deck and en-suite canvas bathrooms while the overall atmosphere is reminiscent of colonial times, big hunts and Hemingway.

This is a unique opportunity to learn about and experience the Zulu culture. Translated into English the word Zulu means 'Heaven', as such the Zulu people, amaZulu, are 'The People of Heaven', and their home, KwaZulu is 'The Place of Heaven'. At Thanda Safari, most of the staff and management are Zulu, which means they afford guests a special introduction to the Zulu people in their community. It is a chance to share in and observe their living culture, ancient traditions and the stories of their greatest monarch, the legendary King Shaka Zulu. You can experience a traditional Zulu homestead, visit a traditional Zulu healer or Sangoma, and experience spellbinding Zulu singing and war dancing. It is spellbinding.

Both Thanda Safari and the Thanda Foundation have always recognised their roles in partnering with their neighbouring communities in a range of job creation, educational and socio-economic upliftment programmes. These projects include Thanda’s flagship Star for Life education and HIV/AIDS prevention programme, the Inkanyiso Crèche project and a job creating, paper-making project. Thanda Safari staff members from these communities are offered further education and skills advancement opportunities. It is all part of tourism being used to benefit local communities. And community work aside, the Thanda team do a lot of conservation work as well. It is a very holistic and well thought through contribution to the greater welfare of the people, plants, animals and future of the area.
