If you were not aware of the perilous plight of the rhinoceros then you have probably been asleep for the last decade. Rhino poaching has reached epic proportions and efforts to conserve these incredible species have never been more intense. As such Thanda employ full time staff to monitor and care for their rhino population and guests are invited to get involved in their conservation of these ancient animals.

Daily monitoring drives take place, but for some there is the opportunity to get really close by being part of a darting mission. Costs for this activity are covered by the guest, so you are paying for an experience and for vital conservation work. The activity involves darting a rhino from a helicopter; notching it for identification and research purposes and then releasing it safely back into the wild. It is thrilling being so close to one of these prehistoric giants - even if it is sedated.
