Why We Love Them

In a world that is full of soulless beach resorts that seek to cram in as many guests as possible this is a refreshingly intimate Landing with only ten guest rooms, each with its own en suite bathroom, balcony and sun-loungers. It is singularly personable and highly individual. Afrochic’s unique and eclectic style of interiors and designs makes a refreshing change from the standard alternatives. The venue is outstanding and the location, on the shores of the wonderfully warm Indian Ocean is sublime. We love the fact that in a country renowned for safaris and game that possibly its’ best Landing is a well-kept secret on the beach!

Their Sustainable Superpower

The Elewana team have gone all out to be agents of change, focussing on big initiatives as well as small ones. In this regard they have done well to massively reduce their single use plastic waste. In 2018, Elewana implemented a ‘Ban the bottle’ initiative that saw each guest given a branded Elewana aluminium reusable bottle that they can fill up at filling points within the property, thus eliminating the use of plastic water bottles. Monitoring showed that when reusable bottles were introduced to six of Elewana’s Landings in Kenya over 160 000 plastic bottles a year were taken out of circulation meaning that they didn't end up in landfills. At the beginning of 2019 the team became the first in East Africa to eliminate the use of plastic straws. They now offer biodegradable paper straws and encourage guests to declare 'War with the straw'.
