As many as 150 elephant live at this sanctuary. Traditionally Mwaluganje has been the domin of lone bull elephants, but during mating season elephant from the neighbouring Shimba Hills Reserve often visit. At these times herds of over 200 can sometimes be found. It is a truly spectacular site.

Aside from the elephant the area also boasts much scenic beauty such as the great natural forests, the awe-inspiring cliffs and the warm blue Indian Ocean. Other natural attractions are "God's Bridge," "Time Rock" and the traditional shrine that characterizes the sacredness of the community.
