Tourism and conservation don't exist in vaccuums, they are embedded within broader communities and landscapes. The Elewana team are very aware of this and go all out to ensure that the local people benefit as much as possible from the influx of tourists and foreign dollars into the area. Staff are drawn from the nearby communities. They are trained and upskilled and empowered. But beyond this engagement with the local communities and their children is encouraged as much as possible.
Visits to the local villages to meet and interact with the people, to shop for crafts and curios and to learn about other cultures and how they do things are encouraged. Local schools that are supported by the adjacent Landings are always worth a visit. The Elewana team are hugely invested in the welfare of their neighbours, ask them about the opportunity to embark on a cultural village or local school visit and they will be delighted to arrange a trip for you.
