The rugged landscape of forests and koppies that surrounds the Landing are home to more than 80 known rock art sites with many more almost certainly still to be discovered. These sites range from single figures to large 'galleries' that tell complicated stories - sometimes with one site containing pictures from vastly different time periods. These sites are well worth visiting as they are a tangible link to our past - each image telling a story about how our ancestors once lived. Carbon dating from pieces of charcoal found in sediments at two of the sites suggests that the paintings range from 700 to 2,000 years-old.
