How They Dazzle Us
Tucked away inside South Africa’s first World Heritage Site, the iSimangaliso Wetland Park this really is a hidden gem. South Africa is place filled with astounding landscapes and wildlife and this is one of the most incredible, albeit one of the more off-the-beaten-track locations. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy close encounters with the untouched African wilderness. The Landing is surrounded by untold biodiversity and beauty that is almost impossible to describe. Estuaries, forests, wildlife, fruit eating vultures and a feeling of tranquillity and repose that harks back to days gone by. This really is an incredible escape.

Why We Love Them
There are not many unspoiled and untouched places left in the world but the area surrounding Kosi Forest Lodge is one of them. The team at this Landing are very aware of the privilege they have of being situated within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, and have gone all out to build the Landing in an eco-conscious way. The tent-style thatched forest rooms are built on raised platforms and nestle under canopies of giant Milkwood trees. The rooms have been designed to blend seamlessly into this pristine indigenous sand forest environment. Candles trump electricity and the team are quite happy to let the location speak for itself rather than feeling the need to dress everything up like a city in the bush. They get it spot on.

Their Sustainable Superpower
Kosi Forest Lodge is run by the team from Isibindi Africa whose stated aim is to preserve the planet for their children’s children. This underlying philosophy is what underpins all that they do – and what they do in the realm of conservation and sustainability is extensive – there are so many special touches. Activities include the removal of single-use plastics, creating micro-economies in neighbouring communities that supply the lodges, replacing plastic water bottles with reusable ones for guests, investing in solar energy farms, refusing to serve seafood that is not ethically harvested, recycling of unused lodge food into feeding schemes. It is a long list and their commitment shows through.
