Nestled between the town of Musanze and the Ugandan border are two scenic lakes known locally as the twin lakes. Individually they are called Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo and their dark blue water and steeps sides ensure they are beautiful and well worth visiting. At little more than an hour away from the Landing they reached easily and comfortably via a tar road. Once there hire a boat and cruise around Lake Ruhondo where you will see many water-birds. Look out for herons, kingfishers, cormorants, darters, hammerkops, storks and cranes and make sure that you have a pair of binoculars and a bird book easily available.
