At 3400m, Mt M’gahinga is the smallest of the six volcanoes in the Virunga Rage. It is also the easiest of the volcanoes to climb and one of the more interesting to summit. The interest comes from some of the features you encounter along the way, including volcanic caves and a swamp in the crater where plants like Alchemillia, Senecio and Lobelia all thrive. Depending on the ability of the hikers this is a walk that can be completed in half a day. Departure for the summit is at 07:00am from the park headquarters in Kinigi.
