The second highest of the six volcanoes in the park, Mount Muhabura stands on the border between Uganda and Rwanda. The climb to the summit of this mountain is steep but the reward on reaching the top is worth it. As the second tallest and most eastern of all the volcanoes the view it affords of the other five mountains is superb. The hike is a full day affair that starts at 7am from the park headquarters in Kinigi. From there hikers are driven to the base of the volcano. Permits can be purchased on the day of the climb and no advance booking is required.
