Why We Love Them
A trip to Cuba offers up a truly unique experience, with laws and customs that are found nowhere else in the world. Cuba is one of the few remaining Marxist–Leninist socialist states. Only 5% of the population has access to uncensored internet and it is illegal to take photographs of police military personnel or airport workers. Until 2008 it was illegal for citizens to own a mobile phone or computer. You won’t find a single can of Coca-Cola or game of monopoly as both were outlawed when Castro seized power.

Education is a high priority in Cuba, with one of the world’s highest literacy rates of 99.8% and part of that is educating communities about protecting the wildlife on the island. It is home to many species, like the tiny bee hummingbird, prehistoric Mangar fish and fierce leaping Cuban crocodile, that are not found anywhere else.

The famous Cuban sandwich or Mixto is a lunch staple, dating back to the time cigar workers travelled between Ybor and Tampa, Florida. It consists of buttered white bread, Serrano ham, roast pork, cheese and mustard.
