This really depends on why you are visiting the country. If skiing or boarding are your vices then the winter months from January to March are the best time to make your way to Austria but if you prefer exploring in less chilly weather than April to May or September to October, which are spring and autumn respectively, are good times. Summer, between June and August, are busy times with the cities crowded and prices inflated.

Austria is well known for its cuisine with the country’s most famous dish probably being the Wiener Schnitzel. The word Wiener means Viennese in German. Interestingly the Vienna sausage or Wiener is not known as such in Austria where the locals tend to refer to it as a Frankfurter Würstl. Other food to look out for is Apple Strudel which is typically Austrian or the Salzburg speciality soufflé, the Salzburger Nockerl.
