Unique Foods
The staple of most Malawian meals is a white maize porridge called Nsima – it’s ubiquitous. Fish is also very common given the importance of lake Malawi to the economy and the everyday life of the people of Malawi. Another uniquely local dish to look out for is Mkhwani, often served alongside Nsima it is made of pumpkin leaves, stewed with tomatoes and ground peanut flour.
