How They Dazzle Us
There is so much to be dazzled by in Tanzania, from the incredible game reserves like Serengeti and Ngorogoro through to the wonder and old-world charm of Stone Town in Zanzibar. Phenomenal snorkelling and diving in Pemba and the hot springs and caves at Tanga. Don’t forget there are Kilimanjaro and the migration of the wildebeest as well. Tanzania is an incredible place to visit, and it dazzles on so many levels that it’s hard to point out one thing.

The abundance and splendour of Tanzania can only be marvelled at. Whether it’s the east meets west fusion of Stone Town, the ecological abundance of the Ngorogoro Crater, or the push-yourself-to-the-limits rush of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania has it all. Coupled with the laidback Hakuna Matata attitude of its people Tanzania is something special, the only minor downside is that it can be stiflingly hot and humid in mid-summer.

While ecotourism is being promoted in Tanzania as an alternative, low-impact form of tourism that supports conservation of natural resources, preserves local culture, and provides economic benefits to the communities, at this stage it is not being implemented as effectively as it should or could be. Evidence suggests most ecotourism activity in the country is localised and relatively minimal due to things like accessibility problems, poor infrastructure, and insufficient marketing and promotion. There is a definite need for government to formulate clearer policies, regulations, and guidelines that show strategies on how to implement ecotourism better.

The best time to view wildlife in Tanzania is during the dry season which runs from late June to October. The best chance of seeing the wildebeest migration in the Serengeti is during June and July. If you are planning a visit to Zanzibar, which you really should, try to avoid the holy month of Ramadan as the island is very Moslem and it is hard to find food or drink there during the day.

The food of Tanzania is very varied due to its size and different terrains. Look out for freshly made msi ya moa, which literally translates as sugar cane juice, or enjoy an abundance of fish and sea food options. These range from bream and samaki to octopus which the local will catch and prepare for you while you wait. Also look out for ndizi-nyama, which is translates literally to plantains with meat.
